Wow, what a good time we had at the Regional 14 meeting. We had two great guest speakers and they did a fantastic job! Thank you Becky Soehnlens. Great job! This web page you can view all of Naomi's settings that she created. http://www.oagc.org/2012-13%20regional/Region%2014/region_14_program%2011-12.htmd Naomi Orme
Naomi's comment from the Garden Path:
Design Study Department
Naomi Ormes, Chair
What is the purpose of design study? Education.
The objective is to encourage interest in flower
arranging, and you, as an exhibitor or a judge, will be
able to do a better job of understanding what makes a
good design. With practice, exhibitors and judges can
understand what makes a good design a great design.
The design study sessions are just that: practice. We
practice putting a design together and then we practice
what would make the design a better design. I
encourage all regional design study chairs to do the
design study sessions in their regions to familiarize
your members with the ever evolving art form of
flower arranging.
There is a Design Study Class at each of the
Exhibitors’ and Judges’ Schools. To get the full grasp
of designing, it is best to actually do the design. You
learn and retain so much more by doing. It has been
suggested to disseminate information sooner, so that
the participants would be able to form an idea in their
mind, look for the components (container, line
material, accessories) to be able to create a design. So
we will focus on an op art design at our next E&J
School. If you are interested in participating and do
not have access to the internet, please contact me.
Applications for the Faye Collins Designer of the
Year contest must be submitted to me by the
December 15 deadline. When entering flower shows,
try to use a table cover, like or similar to the
background. Add your own background if the show is
not staged with an appropriate background. Remove
any ribbons. Set your camera settings without the date
and time stamp. Take several photos, choose the best
one and submit to the state design study chair along
with the application form found in the OAGC
Handbook for Garden Clubs. Remember that your
photo needs to be 4"X6" without any kind of border.
We received a Certificate of Award for our book:

September meeting
Our September meeting was a hot dog roast. As usual it was a drizzly night. But it held off until all the hot dogs were done on their sticks.
We had a great hostess as usual for the festivities. We had our meeting and our hostess came up with a craft for all of us to participate in.
Our theme for the night was Lady Bugs. Which was a lot more than what anyone ever realized that a lady bug can be and is. I am just surprised at what the Internet is just full of. A library at your fingertips.
The door prize were two painted Lady Bug bowling balls with antennas attached and ready to set out in your flower garden What a great idea!! Great hostess like I mentioned earlier.
We voted on having our meetings start at seven in the evening instead of 7:30. Which was approved and welcomed in a second motion. Then we picked the food for our Christmas party in December.
A reminder to all there will be no November meeting and we will see you all at the October meeting.

August Meeting
Tuesday was our meeting by our hostess in Wooster. We all had a good time, I do not know about anyone else but I sure hate it getting darker earlier that what the summer first started out to be.
Fall is fast upon us and the seasons will be changing fast.
Time to finish off the canning season with tomatoes and peppers.
My cabbage will make it until later, as it can withstand some frost...not another time I am looking forward to. As then the 4 letter word will be upon us then also.
We have out next meeting at the campfire in Creston. Please hope for a nice evening. As the last 4 years it has been a drizzly.

July Meeting
- We had a great time at our meeting at Still Meadow Farms. We had a lite dinner which was wonderful and experieced some of her herbs in it.
We then toured her gardens which were a lot of wonderful plants in them. Some of the gardens were herbs which we all tasted and smelled.
She had a cute petting zoo for children. Peacocks which were very active and rather noisy but beautiful.
We then had our meeting and several of us stayed to hear more stories on the farm and planting of her gardens and the collection of her barn items which were unique.
Thank you Still Meadow Farms for hosting our meeting.
Guest night at Orrville Club
- Creston Garden Club was represented by two of its members to the Orrville Garden Club guest night.
The program was about getting your garden and beds ready for fall.
Great program by Paradise Lawn Service in Smithville
Did you know that if you pull up thistle and break the stem that it will come up twice from the broken piece. They suggested that you use a weed killer with a rubber glove and a jersey glove over top of it with it soaked in week killer then just swipe up the thistle in you flower garden. Then pull the thistle up when it is brown and dead.

January good time
Great time at the Garden Club tonight.
Stinky plants was a hit. Thank you to our HOSTESS for a great program on it. Lovely job done also on the program Best Bang for your Buck. One way to get extra plants to give away with that one also. Just a tip for rooting extras for others.
We all need to do that for our plant swap maybe this fall.
We all loved the STINKY food also..Very creative hostess we have here.
See you all next month.
Spring seems to be on the way maybe earlier than we want.
